Ad Muncher Browser Extensions
The Ad Muncher browser extensions allow you to right-click on an advert in your favorite browser to remove or report it. They also allow you to quickly exclude certain pages from filtering.
Note that you must have the Ad Muncher filtering your connections for the extensions to work, either by having Ad Muncher installed on your system, or on a remote system like a proxy server. If you do not currently have Ad Muncher you can download it here.
The browser extensions for Firefox, Mozilla and Netscape must be installed manually due to how the extension systems for these browsers work. Internet Explorer and Opera will be extended automatically by Ad Muncher, but can be extended without Ad Muncher installed by following the directions below.
Please find your browser below for step-by-step instructions:
Firefox
Installation:
- Ensure that you are using the latest version of Firefox as available from here.
- Open the page you are on (this page) in Firefox if you are not already using it.
- Click here and follow the prompts.
- If Firefox displays a message like "To protect your computer, Firefox prevented this site (www.admuncher.com) from installing software on your computer", then:
- Click the "Edit Options" button on the message that appears.
- Enter "www.admuncher.com" into the box labelled "Address of web site".
- Click the "Allow" button.
- Click the "OK" button.
- Click here and follow the prompts.
- Restart your browser to complete the installation.
Removal:
- Open Firefox.
- Click the "Tools" menu, then "Extensions".
- Find "Ad Muncher Browser Extensions" in the window that appears and left-click on it.
- Click the "Uninstall" button and follow the prompts.
- Restart your browser to complete the removal.
Mozilla
Installation:
- Ensure that you are using the latest version of Mozilla as available from here.
- Open the page you are on (this page) in Mozilla if you are not already using it.
- Click here and follow the prompts.
- Restart your browser to complete the installation.
Removal:
The Mozilla browser does not currently have any satisfactory uninstall facilities. Until they get around to implementing them (like Firefox and Netscape have done) you can manually remove the Ad Muncher browser extensions by following the instructions here.
Netscape
Installation:
- Ensure that you are using the latest version of Netscape as available from here.
- Open Netscape.
- Click the "Tools" menu, then "Options".
- Click the "Site Controls" section on the left.
- Click the "Trust Preferences" tab.
- Enable the "Do Not Use Netscape Trust Ratings" checkbox.
- Set the "Always use this setting as a default" option to "I'm Not Sure".
- Click the "Site List" tab.
- Click the "I'm Not Sure" entry in the "Master Settings" list.
- Enable the "Firefox" checbox in the "Rendering Engine" groupbox (in lower-right corner).
- Click the "OK" button.
- Open the page you are on (this page) in Mozilla.
- Click here and follow the prompts.
- Restart your browser to complete the installation.
Removal:
- Open Netscape.
- Click the "Tools" menu, then "Extensions".
- Find "Ad Muncher Browser Extensions" in the window that appears and left-click on it.
- Click the "Uninstall" button and follow the prompts.
- Restart your browser to complete the removal.
Internet Explorer, Opera and IE-based Browsers
Note: "IE-based browsers" include browsers like Maxthon and Avant Browser.
Installation:
If Ad Muncher is running on your computer:
- Make sure Ad Muncher is currently running.
- Left-click the Ad Muncher icon on your system tray (looks like a small cow face).
- Click the "Options" tab, then "Browser Extensions".
- Enable the appropriate "Add extensions to ..." checkbox for your browser.
- Click the "Apply" button.
- Close all open browser windows to complete the installation.
If Ad Muncher is running on a remote system (eg: a proxy):
- Make sure Ad Muncher is filtering your requests (ie: adverts are being removed).
- Click here to get the browser extensions installer, either open it or save it somewhere handy.
- Open the browser extensions installer downloaded above.
- Enable the appropriate "Add extensions to ..." checkbox for your browser.
- Check that the "Browser extensions password" matches the one in your Ad Muncher installation.
- Click the "Apply changes" button.
- Close all open browser windows to complete the installation.
Removal:
If Ad Muncher is running on your computer:
- Make sure Ad Muncher is currently running.
- Left-click the Ad Muncher icon on your system tray (looks like a small cow face).
- Click the "Options" tab, then "Browser Extensions".
- Disable the appropriate "Add extensions to ..." checkbox for your browser.
- Click the "Apply" button.
- Close all open browser windows to complete the removal.
