First and foremost, Ad Muncher removes banner ads from most Web pages and optionally replaces the banner ad with a little text snippet, such as "Ad Munched." The app also removes pop-up ads generated via several methods, some of which other pop-up stoppers may ignore.
With either banner or pop-up ads, you can configure how Ad Muncher deciphers just what you consider an ad is, be the ad a standard banner size graphic, a keyword (you can edit the program's keyword list), or a specific JavaScript call.
Ad Muncher installs what amounts to a miniproxy server on your computer, which monitors the information flow before your browser even gets the information to render and alters a site's HTML code on the fly. This kills pop-ups before they appear for even a split second. This method can offer quite a few tricks. For example, it can alter your IP information if desired so Web servers can't identify from where you're surfing. It does this by bouncing your packets off of other proxy servers randomly. This can slow down your connection, but it definitely works.
Ad Muncher can also filter text, changing any text that matches what you have specified with other text. The program can also prevent auto-refreshes and remove background images and sounds from Web pages, self-focus commands, tiny "bug" graphics, and much more.

As the name suggests, Ad Muncher gets rid of adverts - but it does a lot more besides. In addition to banner blocking and pop-up blocking, the program can disable the commands that launch windows when you close your browser, the referrer logging that tells site owners where you've been, and even background images.
Ads are blocked in different ways. You can prohibit images by size - which also blocks the adverts in some software programs - or by using filters that you've set up yourself; there's also a server-supplied list of common ad systems that you can use in conjunction with your own filters. You can also configure Ad Muncher to block JavaScript alert windows and Meta refresh tags, and you can prevent Internet files from being cached.
Under the Security tab you can disable HTTP referrer logging, Web bugs and status bar text (often used to obscure links' real targets), and you can also override any mouse controls, such as when a page disables the right-click button or text highlighting. OnLoad and OnUnLoad commands can be blocked, too, which stops sites filling your screen with unwanted windows when you arrive at or depart from a page. Finally, the program includes IP scrambling, which uses anonymous proxy servers to hide your real IP address. It's not just limited to IE, either - it also blocked ads in RealOne Player and other irritating apps. Overall, it's a great wee program that makes the Net a much nicer place to be.

Ad Block is simply unacceptable. It has memory leaks and also when the block list becomes large it slows page loading down to a crawl. Finally it has nowhere near the number of features that Ad Muncher offers, so no it most certainly does not do the same job. AdBlock doesn't filter annoying site or browser behavior for instance. Look through the options for Ad Muncher and compare that to AdBlock. One other thing, Ad Muncher works right out of the box, while AdBlock comes with an empty list that you have to add sites too. If you're sick and tired of the terrible AdBlock hack for Mozilla or other programs that either remove too much or too little or screw up pages, choose this app. Don't let the complicated interface scare you, you will likely never need it. It works silently and I have found any ads with the program on any pages, no popups (except the ones that are supposed to popup - like login pages etc.) or anything else. All this WITHOUT any configuration. Configuration IS possible if you into tinkering, but not necessary. EASILY worth the $24.95 they're asking.
