can admuncher doing like toonel ?

Postby aquatica » Thu Feb 22, 2007 12:27 pm

dear admuncher...
sorry if my english not well...
can admuncher doing like toonel ? -> http://www.toonel.net
i mean : toonel can compress resources transferred thereby increasing connection throughput and The compression ratio will depend on the type of content are consuming. For HTTP traffic it can expect about 70% compression level for outgoing requests and about 30% for downloads.
i think, a combination such toonel + admuncher = will be the best solution
i need reply & thanks for attention...

Compress support in the forum of gzip is coming soon with Ad Mucher v4.8.

But yes I see ad muncher does not work with this program. Even with ad muncher filtering disabled you just get blank pages.

Nice app though, average Compression Ratio of 53% so far. :)

Update: No it does work if you start the app first and then ad muncher... hehe

Too bad its a proxy. kinda sucks...love the way ad mucher works and its not 100% open source either...

Update2: nope it sucks, crashs browser (IE, Firefox and Opera all crash), pics fail to load a lot of the times....

This is slightly off topic, but a better compression would be achieved by commercial web accelerators based on the SlipStream core.

The two most fastest web accelerators would be Onspeed and Nitro Web Accelerator. They compress image data, as well as flash. The graphics compression can be done at various levels, from best quality to poor quality. Both of them work fine with Ad Muncher enabled.

Two free alternatives to the above are Traffic Compressor and Google Web Accelerator. Although, they aren't as adept as the slipstream based clients- they don't support image/flash compression.

I've been using Onspeed since many years now, from 56kbps dialup to 2Mbps DSL.. and this is my personal record during a random browsing session 8)

"Works on connections up to 2Mb"

I'll take my 8Mbps connection instead, thanks anyways!!!! 8)

I tried products like these a few years back when I was still on dial up and they never seemed to help at all.... oh well!!!!

Actually, I think a good portion of websites already use output compression in the form of gzip and deflate, so how much tools help really depends on the type of websites you're visiting.
Same goes for compressing images further. Quite a few websites use gif with the full color palette when 16 or 32 colours or so suffice or JPEG's in 100% when 70% does the job.

Any word on an ETA for AdMuncher 4.8? I'm really hoping for HTTP/1.1 support, which would give a nice but subtle speed boost and welcome reduce of bandwidth consumption.

Firstly Ad Muncher currently doesn't support Gzip, also, gzip isn't very efficient at compression compared to other algorithms such as lzw or ppd.

Image optimization is highly overlooked in most websites and thus theres a large benifit obtained from it.

Besides, there are a number of other protocols being compressed that gzip enabled pages don't do. For instance, all data sent upstream is also compressed, which doesn't happen in GZIP, other protocols such as pop3/smtp are supported, plus file formats like flash are also compressed.

See my above screenshot and see how much I benifited from Onspeed during one random session. I was mostly browsing through various forums during that session.

Anyways, the main reason to use such software is to either increase the surfing speed (if you're on dialup) or to reduce your bills (if you're billed by amount of data downloaded). If you don't fall in any of the above two categories, then there's no reason for you to use web accelerators.
